Samsung Electro-Mechanics to raise MLCC prices by 30% in August.
According to South Korean media reports, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will raise the prices of the multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) it supplies to sales partners by 30% starting next month. This move aims to address the intensifying supply shortage driven by a surge in demand for high-specification MLCCs used in artificial intelligence (AI) servers.

According to industry insiders, Samsung Electro-Mechanics recently notified sales partners that prices for all MLCC product lines classified under the "SEMSZ markup business code" would increase by 30% over current levels; this adjustment applies to products shipped on or after August 1.
In the notification, the company explained that the global electronics industry has experienced structural demand growth over the past few months, noting: "Despite improvements in production efficiency and continuous expansion of production lines, the pressure on the supply chain has exceeded manageable limits."
MLCCs (Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitors) are electronic components capable of storing electrical energy, ensuring stable power supply to semiconductors, and suppressing voltage fluctuations and signal interference. With the rising demand for AI servers and data center accelerators, market demand for high-capacity, high-reliability MLCC products has also increased. Compared to traditional servers, AI servers require higher computational performance and large-scale data processing capabilities, resulting in significantly higher power consumption and heat generation. Consequently, MLCCs designed for AI servers must operate stably under extreme conditions, such as high temperatures (above 105°C), high rated voltages (100V), and high flexural strength (2 mm).
