Product Overview
Traditional materials used for optical module bases and housings generally include Kovar alloy, zinc alloy, and tungsten-copper alloy. While Kovar and zinc alloys can meet heat dissipation requirements to a certain extent, their thermal performance proves inadequate for optical modules operating at speeds of 400G and above. Although tungsten-copper alloy offers sufficient thermal conductivity, it suffers from high density, processing difficulties, and high manufacturing costs.

Aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramics feature high thermal conductivity (with a theoretical value of 320 W/m·K), excellent electrical insulation, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion that matches that of Si and SiC; consequently, they are ideally suited for packaging applications requiring high thermal conductivity, electrical insulation, and low thermal expansion. Precision-formed aluminum nitride ceramics are widely used in optical modules—for instance, AlN ceramic heat sinks serve as cost-effective thermal management solutions replacing tungsten-copper or molybdenum-copper, while AlN substrates enhance thermal conductivity in Micro-TEC (micro-thermoelectric cooler) applications. Additionally, AlN ceramics are used to fabricate structural components for optical module housings.
